FOS Committee Meeting: 16th February 2009 - St.Peter's Church, Burnley

PRESENT: Rev H Kirkup in the chair with all members present apart from Mr David James who sent his apologies. Also in attendance were Mrs P Spurin and Mr. A Roadley.

MINUTES The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Apologies were received from Mr. David James and the secretary was asked to write to him expressing our sympathy following the death recently of his wife.

MATTERS ARISING: 1. New bank account. The treasurer reported that RBS has agreed to continue to pay interest and to waive charges on the account. 2. 2010 calendar. It vas thought that this would be expensive to produce and would not be viable. 3. Newsletters. One was produced in December and 40 copies distributed. There had been a little response by way of donations. 4. Christmas Tree festival - Thanks were expressed to Kathleen Smith for expertly decorating the tree. It was felt that this was a good way to bring the charity to the notice of the local public. A letter had also been sent to the Burnley Express and published in that paper appealing for funds.

TREASURER'S REPORT:We now have £1096.24 in the bank after having paid the pre Christmas school fees and we need at least £700 more to meet the May fees.

WEBSITE: This in now up and running and appreciation was expressed to Alan Roadley for all his work without payment. It was agreed that Martyn Smith would look into the possibilities of having `justgiving' as a partner to receive donations and if deemed satisfactory the website would show this. The recent newsletter and these minutes are to be displayed on the website.

FUTURE FUND RAISING: it was agreed that the display from the United Reformed Church should be displayed in St. Peter's Church to arouse further interest. A copy of the May/June newsletter together with details of the AGM are to be sent to each of the local Churches inviting them to send a representative along.

AGM: To be held at the United Reformed Church on either the 18th or 19th June. The secretary is to see if Christian Aid will provide a DVD or film showing its work in Kenya which could lead into a talk by Mrs. Spurin of our work in Sikinga. A quiz is to be compiled and copies sold to help funds.

The meeting ended with the grace.
