AGM: 9th June 2009 - Bethesda United Reform Church, Burnley
Present: Helen Kirkup in the chair and seventeen members and friends.
Apologies: Received from Mr. P. West and Canon R. Spurin.
Minutes of the last Meeting: These were read and approved; there were no matters arising.
The chairman briefly thanked everyone for their contribution.
Accounts: These were presented by Mr. Tony Yates who was warmly thanked for his work during the year. During the year £4200 has been sent to Kenya and there is still a bank balance of £581.28.
Elections:
Chairman - Pat Spurin.
Vice Chairman - Helen Kirkup.
Treasurer - Tony Yates.
Secretary - David Smith.
The Committee - Re-elected en bloc.
Any Other Business: The website was discussed and there have been approximately 50-60 hits each month. We are hoping to have our site linked to from others and Burnley F.C. and Burnley Express were mentioned as possibilities. We also hope to have facilities for online giving in future.
Following the formal business an illustrated presentation was given by Steve and Angela Rowley of Rowley Projects, another small charity working in Kenya. This was a very inspiring talk with much to help the Friends in their work. We could emulate them with water aid, sponsorship of individual children and the publication of a wish list for individual items such as school desks etc. We could also issue a number of flyers for display locally and we were advised to try and get a school on-side to be a major sponsor.
