FOS Committee Meeting: 12th October 2009 - St.Peter's Church, Burnley

Present: Mrs P. Spurin (Chair) and all members apart from Mr.M.Smith and Mr.D.Kilpatrick who sent apologies.

Minutes: The last meeting's minutes were read and approved. There were no matters arising.

AGM 2009: It was generally agreed that this had been a good meeting but again the attendance was disappointing. It was suggested that next year we should try to obtain a speaker or DVD from the Church Missionary Society; Mr D. James can supply the digital projector etc. if needed.

Financial Report: We have a present bank balance of £1852.54 but within the last day or two further donations and funds have been received (£350 from St.Peter's and £156 from St.Peter's school) which means that we can now pay to Sikinga the school fees of £2100 "by the skin of our teeth"! A letter was read from Sikinga together with a budget for the next year. A further letter was received from Sikinga suggesting a commercial venture for the youngsters who have finished at school, which is a catering scheme with set-up costs of £5000. It was decided to approach Bowland Trust to see if it can help. Most of our donations come from the committee, and some £1400 has been received since the last AGM.

Website: Alan Roadley is keeping the site updated and will redesign it when time permits. It was agreed that he should investigate with the treasurer methods of receiving donations online, and if satisfied set the arrangement up. The hosting charge is £27.46 for the year and is to be paid by us.

The chairman is to ascertain what items are needed to help with the children's schooling and it is hoped that an appeal to cover the cost of some of these items can be included on the website.
Martyn Smith has approached Burnley FC for sponsorship and awaits a reply.
The chairman is to talk to Terry Murnane to try to ascertain the best local secondary school (with a named contact) which may be interested in furthering our cause.

Any Other Business: Alan Roadley was co-opted on to the committee with our thanks for his website work.

Date of Next Meeting: Monday 26th April 2010 at St.Peter's, Burnley.
